Astrology weather for May 15, 2012
Venus goes retrograde in Gemini today and will remain in apparent backward motion until June 27. The periods when the planet named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty appears from the earth’s perspective to go backward in the sky tend to be bad times to make any decisions related to matters that Venus rules. Astrology wisdom suggests that you avoid, for example, getting a new hairstyle, choosing a wedding dress or buying a new decorative item for your home during this time.
How to use the Venus retrograde period
However, Venus retrograde times tend to be good for revising the agreements which underlie your relationships. If your sweetie or your best friend has been taking you for granted, assuming you should do the heavy lifting of the relationship this is a good time to have a discussion about it. The fact that Venus will stay in communicative Gemini and will have a favorable aspect to transiting Saturn, the planet of maturity, improves your chances of successfully renegotiating things to a more equal footing. Just be sure to honor Saturn in your talks by treading slowly and carefully rather than rushing in and trampling someone’s feelings.
Personal impact
Venus begins her backward twirl near 24 degrees of Gemini and then goes direct at 7 degrees of the same sign. You may wish to check your natal chart to see if you have any planets lying in her path during this time. Particularly if you have personal planets (the closer ones, rather than the further out planets which are transpersonal) in this area, you may hear from, or at least hear news of, people from your past. If your natal Saturn (related to boundaries) is involved, you may find that it is time to finally cut ties with that old love with whom you have one of those on-again, off-again relationships.
Moon
The Moon continues to grow smaller in the sky as she moves toward her dark phase this weekend. The New Moon period, when the Moon is usually invisible to us, are usually good times to set intentions for changes you want to make in your life. The Gemini New Moon on May 20 has a special energy because it is also a solar eclipse. I will write more about the eclipse later this week.
